2026 Interior Design Trends: What’s New in the Year Ahead?

The new trend cycle is about to begin and with it come fresh ideas rooted in classic design

Are you really into interiors if you don’t scan every TV serial, mini-series and period drama to critique the interior design?

While we wait for season four of The White Lotus to drop with its covetable interiors, Bridgerton is back for its fourth season on 29 January when we’ll still be in the depths of hibernation season and needing a little joy to lift us out of the post-Christmas slump.

Set in the Georgian period, it’s been influencing interiors quietly for a while and set to trend in 2026, with a certain actor and her contractor fiancé leading the way.

Georgian Chic Interior Style: The Revival Trend of 2026

Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott, who is well known to home renovation fans as one of the siblings on HBO/Sky’s Property Brothers, have taken the Georgian period as inspiration for the redesign of their Manhattan duplex, now filled with fab cornices, Regency striped drapery, grandiose chandeliers and sumptuous jewel-toned velvets.

We can get the look, too, with the EZ Living Interiors Crawford sofa in royal blue with stud detail and a castor foot to fit in nicely, as would the Nelson wing-back armchair with its gentlemen’s club vibes of a bygone era.

To take the look further, the Clementine bed might have come straight off the Bridgerton set, perfect for our favourite newly-weds, Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington. Just add in the Louis-Phillippe collection of mahogany bedroom dresser and night stands to finish the look and give maximalist touchpoints. Yes, we’re still loving our maximalism into 2026.

Interior Colour Trends 2026: Greens, Ochres and Wellness Shades

Fung shui fans will know the importance of green for calm relaxation and connecting with the outdoors, and while its perennially in fashion, there are two particular shades to watch out for next season; olive and sage.

If you’re considering a splurge on a new sofa the velvet Scott Cypress and ottoman have an olive tone as does close relative, the fabric Cooper.

Colour for 2026 is also presented as a wellness tool. Hues and shades that deliver calm relaxation and comfort are offered to us in sandy tones, ochre accents, and blues ranging from cobalt to turquoise.

Trying out a new colour can be simply done with cushions which are easy to change if you decide the colour isn’t exactly what you want, sending them off to migrate to a different part of the home.

Try the trending brown and blue combination handily available in the Camel Cobalt cushion. Or avail of the winter sale prices and spend on the Allegra blue power recliner sofa with the addition of a Whiskey leather tan armchair.

Ochre is another hue that never quite goes out of fashion, and while a yellow sofa might be a little over-the-top, an accent chair like the Anderson or Bowl with their ‘60s edge bring a touch of mid-century style which never goes out of fashion.

Modern Heritage Interior Design: Craftsmanship and Timeless Style

Loving how Gen Z is evolving in a new direction and becoming the Tool Belt Generation, opting for learning the practical, hand-on trades and not necessarily tracking to a college degree. In time, it means the scarcity of carpenters, plasterers, masons and plumbers will resolve, much to the joy of those of us who are currently waiting weeks for one to show up.

This appreciation of traditional trades is part of a bigger heritage trend focusing on local workmanship and manufacture.

Fans of cottagecore and farmhouse-style furniture might like the Irish made Veranna sofa in stoney grey, characterised by traditional lines but in a contemporary stoney grey fabric to work in a new build or a period home. The same goes for the irresistible Glenbeigh cuddler armchair designed in a more pared back style that gives a nod to traditional lines and sits on a turned wooden leg.

Go retro with another Irish beauty, the Moorfield, finished in sage green upholstery to really channel the green trend. But if you’re hankering for something representing the cosiness of heritage and also the opulence of Georgian chic, the Cotswold sofa in blue and white stripes could win the approval of Lady Bridgerton, Lady Danbury and the Bon Ton.
