Home Furnishings Explained
With lots of choices in home furnishings, it can be a little bewildering to know what is the best choice for your home.

Home Furnishings Explained
With lots of choices in home furnishings, it can be a little bewildering to know what is the best choice for your home. Should you choose a leather sofa or a fabric one; should you buy kitchen island chairs or stools; are velvet bedframes practical? Lots to consider and we’ve tried to break things down for you!

Home Furnishings in the Kitchen
Whether you’ve made a decision to update your existing kitchen or you’ve just moved into a brand new home, the kitchen is of course vitally important because inevitably, you will spend the majority of your time there!
The biggest decision for this room will be the inclusion (space allowing) of a dining table. Choosing the right dining table will mean fluid movement in the room but also will provide a highly functional and stylish piece of furniture as long as you choose the right one! Clever options here if you’re short on space could be a round dining table or an extendable table. Where space isn’t a concern, you can really go for a showstopper like the Indus Rustic dining table with its wonderfully detailed table top and overall high-quality finish; there is huge potential here too for adding space with the centre-piece being an additional section.
In terms of materials, dining tables come in many finishes including wooden choices which can look beautifully rustic; it’s important to choose a high-quality version and to check if it’s heat resistant. You don’t want to constantly have to be conscious of what you place on the table! We love the Pegaso dining table which has a sturdy pedestal base and a ceramic top which is heat and scratch proof; it extends at both ends so is perfect when you are entertaining or have a bigger group. We also find that the Hampstead round dining table is hugely popular as it gives a period feel with a contemporary twist.
If you have a kitchen island in your home, the next decision is what seating to choose! Stools with backrests or without backrests and what height? It’s actually more complex than you think so much so, we wrote a guide on choosing your kitchen island stools. One tip we recommend to people moving into a new home is to not rush the selection of your kitchen island stools; sometimes it’s better to settle in to see what your requirements are in that you might realise you don’t have a vast amount of floorspace for a wide based stool for example.
Home Furnishings in the Living Room
Of course, in terms of furnishings in the living room, the sofa is the main focus. We spend so much time on our sofas that it’s vital to choose one that will be comfortable, durable and of course that will look well! The sofa decision is not to be rushed - check out our helpful guide on sofa selection. You need to take into account practical things too so for example, while your Pinterest boards might showcase your adoration for a cream fabric sofa, if you have young kids and/or pets, this might not be the best idea! However, if a fabric couch is something you really want as opposed to a leather sofa for example, fabric technology has advanced so much that high-quality versions will be stain-resistant (or stains easily wiped clean) in some cases. EZ Living Interiors sales assistants will be happy to advise you on details like this instore or via our chat function on our website.
Accessories including soft furnishings like blankets, throws and cushions are what will really set things off in your living room. For example, we adore the Mesmerize cushion coupled with the luxurious Halo antique throw<.

Home Furnishings in the Bedroom
Fabric bedframes are very much in vogue this year and will continue to be popular in 2020. We’re swooning over this Boutique fabric bedframe in a beautiful vintage beige colour which would bring effortless elegance and comfort to any boudoir; this piece of bedroom furniture is beautifully detailed with a sophisticated buttoned back bed frame - the only problem is that you won’t want to get out of bed in the mornings!
Classic wooden bedframes will always be in style and it’s easy to see why. The sleek Thomson bedframe is New Zealand pine and is very well priced; it also has other pieces of bedroom furniture in its collection to create a cohesive look. There is always the ever stylish Calia bedframe made from solid American white oak; its natural wood frame offers a nod towards Scandinavian design while its metal base points to an on-trend industrial touch...so classy!
While the bed is of course the mainstay of the bedroom, the finishing touches are also important to add that extra layer of comfort and style. We are a big fan of the Marlow ottoman bed bench which is not only functional as a seat for a quiet bedroom reading moment but also its detailing is truly stunning. Another option similar to this is the Kimberley blanket box which has the added benefit of storage so it’s a really clever choice!
