Looking to give a style makeover to a space? A new collection of cushions and throws have launched to get your latest styling project underway

Every home stylist who is passionate about comfort and aesthetics knows textiles are their best friend.

Just think how a bare sofa is immediately animated by the addition of a cushion selection, and as the temperatures turn and we swop going out for curling up to binge-watch the latest must-see series, snuggling under a throw is requisite.

Cushions and throws both add style points being endlessly versatile as they can migrate from room to room. Adding colour, they’ll take a minimalist interior up a notch, and as home furnishings go, they also happen to be some of the easiest on the purse.

Just on the cusp of winter when our focus shifts indoors, EZ Living Interiors’ own brand Capsule Cushion Collection brings us 10 colour stories, each with four to six cushions and a selection of matching throws.

“We brought in the collection to add much-needed colour to the soft furnishings landscape,” says Emma Murphy, creative manager, and accessories and furniture buyer. “Neutrals as a base for upholstery have been a big trend for the last few years, but for anyone fatigued with beige we’ve brought in these energetic capsule collections.”

Cushions range in price from £20 to £28, and throws start at £35 up to £159 for a large velvet option.

Among them is a dynamic cobalt blue and camel combination; another is terracotta and powder blue, pairings that have been the unexpected colour combination of the year. But while colours in the brown family reference the ‘70s, and terracotta has its ‘90s connotations, adding blue transforms them as elegant and modern in a play on warm and cool.

As any home stylist knows, cushions have come to the aid of many an interiors quandary, but quality is key unless you want flat pancakes in six months’ time.

Emma and the team at EZ Living Interiors have also focused on offering high-end textiles in each capsule - velvet, cotton, linen and a touch of mohair - to give tactility and aesthetic appeal, with cushion fillers made of luxury hypoallergenic microfibre. Being feather-free, they’re also suitable for vegan shoppers.

Two perennially favourite colours included are green and yellow with each getting its own capsule.

Dusty pine is a soft, sophisticated take on green using velvet, linen and corduroy. The ochre capsule plays more on texture with the addition of a mohair cushion and throw, but for other tastes which steer clear of stronger colour, there’s a soft palette in powder blue and mink, and a neutral capsule with a gentle botanical embroidered motif.

If you need to give depth to a cream sofa or chair, a cinnamon and toffee capsule offers warmer tones.

With such an extensive offering, deciding which is right for your home is a happy dilemma with an opportunity to play house. Customers are encouraged to experiment with the cushions in-store so you find the capsule that matches your personality and is timeless for you and your home.

“Our instore visual merchandisers will pair each capsule with the furniture it sits best with,” says Emma. “It means that if you see a sofa in-store which is similar to the one you have at home, you can see how it looks with the cushions. So, say, you see the cobalt and camel capsule on a leather sofa, you can move them to another sofa in-store so you make the right choice. You also have the option of mixing and matching the capsules as they’re made of similar materials.”

Kiddies get to play too with a trio of floormats to bring some softness underfoot in a practical flat cotton, and there’s some novelty in animal form with the Wally the Whale and Dotty the Dinosaur cushions.

Christmas has your cushions covered too, but with themes that will see you through the colder months and not necessarily consigned to storage in early January.

Three handy cushion covers can be used with existing fillers and have gentle winter themes around skiing and a sketch-style townscape (£14). They’re a subtle choice, and for the more minimalist home stylists in our midst, free of the glittery razzmatazz we might expect for the festive season.
